Welcome

Thank you for visiting to check in on Ryan's progress towards recovery. Ryan has always been there for everyone he knows and right now we all hope we can live up to his example by being there for him and his family while he heals. He is strong and we all know that if anyone can come through this it is him.

While Ryan's injuries are serious and frightening, the best thing for us to do is all stay on the same page with accurate information but also all stay positive and look forward to the good news to come. The aim of this site is to reflect the incremental changes in his condition. Also, this should provide a space to express your love and concern for Ryan and his family.

Mother's Day Update

Ryan is becoming more and more responsive. He has been off of the ventilator for almost a week and is starting to respond to simple commands. During tonight's visit, he was holding my hand and would squeeze it when I asked him to squeeze. He made eye contact during the whole visit and would smile several times when we mentioned something funny or told him stories about his dogs, friends and family. He also sat up in a chair for six hours for the first time today. The nurse said he was responding to commands and seemed to enjoy sitting up.

He has not been moved out of the ICU yet. The nurse mentioned that he might stay in the ICU for a few more days, then possibly move over to Touro Hospital to begin rehab. This could be as early as mid week.

There were a bunch of people in town this weekend for Jazz Fest. Many of Ryan's friends that were in town held a brunch at Ryan's house on Saturday. We put together a photo album for Mrs. Porcelli for Mother's Day and presented it to her at the brunch. Thanks so much to everyone that contributed photos of Ryan for the album and to everyone that helped put it together. We are organizing the photos in an online album and will post it on the blog shortly.
